The Southern Singers 50th Anniversary Concert
In 1976, a new group of singers in the southern area became known as The Noarlunga City Choir. In 2003, a new city name came about and and the choir became The Onkaparinga City Choral Society Inc., with the choral group as The Southern Singers.
The Southern Singers choir holds two main concerts each year, annually participates in the Adelaide Sings Choral Festival and the Southern Community Christmas Carols. The choir are often guest performers at other local events such as being part of the Onkaparinga City Concert Band’s annual ‘Proms in the South’.
This year, being the 50th anniversary of the choir, the Onkaparinga City Concert Band and the City of Onkaparinga Pipe Band, there will be much celebrating, with the three groups being part of each other’s special events.
Jeanette Stieg, the current Music Director, joined the choir in 1983 as a choral singer. Jeanette has been the full time Music Director since 2013.
Nisan Tuazon, the choir’s accompanist, has been with the group since 2012.
Some members of the choir have been enjoying singing with the group for many years. The choir itself is a very happy, friendly group who work very hard to achieve their goals. The current membership is 30 and new singers are always warmly welcomed.
We are very proud to be a choir holding the City name and achieving 50 continual years of happily entertaining in our wonderful community.
